On Friday, Aug. 9, MPAC's Washington, DC Director Haris Tarin joined American Muslim and Arab American leaders for a meeting with Secretary of State John Kerry, National Security Adviser Susan Rice and Special Envoy for Mid-East Peace Martin Indyk to discuss recent attempts by the U.S. to revive the stalled peace talks.

On Sunday, June 30, MPAC, All Saints Episcopal Church, Pasadena, and Homeboy Industries co-sponsored a powerful community forum -- “From Despair to Hope: Connecting the Dots Between Gangs and Violent Extremism” -- to examine the plague of violence at the hands of young men in our society today. “Violence is the language of despair,” explained Father Greg Boyle, Founder of Homeboy Industries. “We must infuse hope to those in despair, work to heal trauma and provide mental health care when needed.” -

MPAC condemned the brutal murder of four Egyptian Shia Muslims, who were killed in an act of mob violence on Sunday in the Giza province outside of Cairo. Egypt has a rich history of intra-faith harmony, and this attack sets a dangerous precedent for the country and the region. In late December, MPAC boarded a yellow school bus along with NETWORK, Bend the Arc Jewish Action and a coalition of diverse national faith leaders for “Rabbis, Imams, Pastors, and Nuns on the Bus," a day of action to highlight top moral priorities of people of faith in the fiscal showdown. The leaders came together to urge Congress and the Obama administration to protect the most vulnerable in society, struggling Americans, when deciding on how to deal with the fiscal cliff. -

In mid-December, MPAC joined its interfaith allies to remember the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting and to denounce gun violence. More than 100 people gathered for the vigil with interfaith leaders offering prayers, two women sharing moving testimonies about losing loved ones to gun violence and everyone standing together in a moment of silence. -
