St. Bonaventure University, one of the oldest and recognized universities in the country, has announced that Dr. Khalid J. Qazi, the President of MPAC-WNY, will be honored with the Annual Gaudete Awards on April 18, 2013. We congratulate Dr. Qazi on this special recognition. -

Recently, the Wilson Center in Washington, DC held a half-day conference with American Muslim public officials, where MPAC was recognized for its role in advancing Muslim political participation. The Center featured public officials from around the country: Judges Halim Dhanidina and David Shaheed; Mayors Abdul Haidous, Mohammed Hameeduddin and Wayne Smith; and City Council Member Robert Jackson. -

MPAC's Hollywood Bureau today launched its nomination process for its upcoming 21st Annual Media Awards. MPAC's Media Awards honor artists, actors, activists and executives as “voices of courage and conscience”, who use art and media to create enriching and humanizing portrayals of Islam and Muslims, promote diversity and social justice issues and inspire action. -

Just before Christmas, Edina Lekovic, MPAC's Director of Policy and Programming, traveled to Toronto for the 11th Annual Reviving the Islamic Spirit Conference (RIS). Before an audience of more than 15,000 people, she explored the topic “I’m Innocent, I’ve Been Framed: When Others Frame Your Picture.” -

On Monday, Oct. 22, the NYC subway system will feature ads by MPAC, which is an effort to counter the recent hateful and divisive ad released by Pamela Geller’s organization, AFDI. One week later, on Monday, Oct. 29, the Metro system in DC, will post the same ads on WMATA buses across the DC, Virginia and Maryland areas. -

This past weekend, Yasmin Hussein, MPAC’s Young Leaders Program Coordinator, spoke at the MAS Annual Family Camp in Atlanta. With more than 100 attendees at the camp, Hussein led a discussion with a largely youth-aged group discussing ways to improve the perception of Muslims in America. -

MPAC endorses the MercyMail Campaign and encourages all concerned citizens to send condolences to U.S. Ambassador Christopher Stevens’ family. The campaign has generated more than 6,000 letters to date and MPAC encourages communities to continue to send their letters until midnight, Tuesday, Sept. 25. -

Last weekend, about 25 Muslim high school and college students attended a two-day civic summit organized by the Muslim Youth Group of the Islamic Center of Southern California (ICSC) and MPAC. -

Last night, the Muslim Public Affairs Council along with the All Dulles American Muslims (ADAMS) Center Youth Group hosted a groundbreaking event – “Let's Be Honest: Getting Beyond the Taboos of Our Community.” With more than 600 attendees, the main hall of the ADAMS Center was standing-room only for the energetic discussions. -

On Thursday, July 19, “The Light in Her Eyes,” will have its national broadcast premiere at 10 p.m. on PBS. The touching documentary, follows Houda al-Habash, a Muslim Syrian woman who, at the age of 17, goes against tradition and opens a Quran school for girls in a downtown mosque.
