Hussein Speaks at Muslim Inter-Scholastic Tournament in DC
April 4, 2013
MPAC's Young Leaders Program Coordinator, Yasmin Hussein, spoke at the Muslim Inter-Scholastic Tournament (MIST) in Washington, DC, last weekend, where she conducted two workshops and participated in a panel during the main townhall session. The session was attended by over 600 American Muslim high school students from the DC-Maryland-Virginia area.
Hussein’s first session was titled “Unbrand Me: Responding to Toxic Media” where she discussed common stereotypes of the American Muslims and ways young Muslims can work to overcome those stereotypes.
The second session, “From the Sidelines to the Front Line,” focused on civic engagement and the many opportunities in which we all can be more active citizens.
It ended with an open forum titled "Real Talk, Real Change” where Hussein also attended. This was a Q&A session where all the competitors were able to ask the panelists questions and have open conversations.
