Following NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s video urging the federal government to enforce the International Criminal Court (ICC) arrest warrant against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, MPAC President Salam Al-Marayati reacts directly from the U.S. Capitol. Salam highlights how local leaders are bypassing federal stalemates to speak directly to the public, demanding that the United States uphold the rule of law and international standards if it expects to be taken seriously on the world stage. For decades, discussing Palestinian rights within Washington or mainstream media was taboo. Today, an undeniable generational shift is taking place. What started with student movements on college campuses has moved directly into mainstream elections. The political rise of leaders like NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani reflects this wave. Unapologetic in his stance on Palestinian rights and vocal about holding international leaders accountable for war crimes, his victory proves that the electorate is demanding bold, principled leadership. While this cultural and electoral shift is undeniable, the question remains how quickly it will translate into concrete foreign policy reform. MPAC continues to work on the ground to ensure these shifting public sentiments lead to real policy changes in Washington. Reporting directly from Capitol Hill, MPAC President Salam Al-Marayati delivers a critical update on rising Middle East tensions. As military escalation threatens to drag Iran, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, Kuwait, and the UAE into a massive regional war, Salam reminds lawmakers of their constitutional duty. Under the U.S. Constitution, only Congress has the power to declare war, not a single member of the administration. Lawmakers must answer to the American people before plunging the nation into another endless conflict. Watch full updates and policy breakdowns on YouTube, Spotify, or Apple Podcasts. As the same war lobby that led the United States into Iraq re-emerges—recycling its playbook to push for conflict with Iran—America once again stands at the edge of a costly and catastrophic war. This time, the aggression is masked as a matter of “Israel’s security,” but in reality, it serves a dangerous agenda of expansionism and domination over sovereign nations and peoples. Trita Parsi, Executive Vice President of the Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft joined MPAC President Salam Al-Marayati for a critical conversation about Israel’s War with Iran: what’s at stake, who is driving it, and how we can resist another disastrous conflict. ---------- Subscribe to MPAC's channel: http://bit.ly/MPACYouTube Like MPAC on Facebook: http://fb.com/mpacnational Follow MPAC on Twitter: http://twitter.com/mpac_national Follow MPAC on Instagram: http://instagram.com/mpac_national Visit MPAC's website: http://mpac.org About the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) We improve public understanding and policies that impact American Muslims by engaging our government, media, and communities. On June 10, 2022 By MPAC
As the White House and the State Department create and publicly share our nation’s foreign policy, it is partially predicated on the notion that our nation is privileged with the moral high ground and therefore can take preemptive action. However, for decades that foreign policy has only strategically emphasized human rights abroad. Our longstanding allies commit unthinkable acts of violence without being checked and that must stop. At our inaugural collaborative National American Muslim Policy Conference, MPAC President, Salam Al-Marayati and CEO of Emgage, Wa'el Alzayat, sat down with Peter Beinart, Professor of Journalism and Political Science, University of New York, Samar Ali, Research Professor, Vanderbilt Project on Unity, and Jonathan Finer, Deputy National Security Advisor to discuss the issue what needs to be done going forward. MPAC co-hosted the inaugural National American Muslim Policy Conference which brought together elected officials, experts, and leaders from across the nation to discuss our community's policy priorities and needs. We are proud to have worked alongside American Muslim Health Professionals, Institute for Social Policy and Understanding, Illinois Muslim Civic Coalition, and Emgage Action as part of the Community Collaborative Initiative. The Community Collaborative Initiative, a community-based action research project hosted by Indiana University's Lilly School of Philanthropy, we cordially invite you to participate in the inaugural National American Muslim Policy Conference. ---------- Subscribe to MPAC's channel: http://bit.ly/MPACYouTube Like MPAC on Facebook: http://fb.com/mpacnational Follow MPAC on Twitter: http://twitter.com/mpac_national Follow MPAC on Instagram: http://instagram.com/mpac_national Visit MPAC's website: http://mpac.org About the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) We improve public understanding and policies that impact American Muslims by engaging our government, media, and communities.
