MPAC and the Newseum are partnering to hold a discussion on how blasphemy laws violate the fundamental human right of free speech. This panel will present the status of blasphemy laws in the world today, and examine the use of these laws in some countries to stifle dissent.

Today is a big day. The Supreme Court is hearing a case looking at the limits of religious freedom in the prison setting. The case, Holt v. Hobbs, involves an Arkansas prisoner petitioning to grow a half-inch beard, which the Arkansas Department of Correction (ADC) believes is hazardous to prison security. -

As thousands of American Muslims embark on Hajj every year, this year presented a new set of issues for travelers that voiced their fears of attacks that other pilgrims have faced in the past. After collectively addressing these pressing issues, the State Department emplaced initiatives and protocols to protect American Muslims at Hajj. -

The Bilal Islamic Center in south Los Angeles hosted MPAC President Salam Al-Marayati last weekend for a talk about the parallels between the Medina Constitution and the U.S. Constitution. The Medina Constitution is the social contract created between the Prophet Muhammad with leaders of other faith communities. -

MPAC rebukes the intolerable actions of a Sudanese court in sentencing a pregnant woman to death for what it claims to be apostasy. The Sudanese court, along with so many other authorities in Muslim-majority countries that are invoking sharia, is violating the core Quranic principle which states, “There shall be no compulsion in religion” (2:256). -

The feature film Jinn, which was released in theaters on April 4, takes a concept that is familiar to over a billion people and introduces it to mainstream entertainment. Jinn touches upon a concept that is well-known to the three major religions: Islam, Christianity and Judaism. -

This past fall and currently this spring term, Gabbi Ncube has been interning with MPAC in communication, marketing and media. Originally from Tempe, AZ, Ncube is a third year student at Occidental College in Los Angeles. She is working toward her major in media arts and culture, with a focus on media production and screenwriting, and a minor in critical theory and social justice. -

As news continues to pour out over the current conflict between Hamas and Israel, we cannot forget the ongoing crisis in Syria. To date, the total death toll of Syrians is almost at 40,000. The Syrian revolution has been ongoing since March 2011, but after the formation of a coalition of Syrian opposition groups in Doha on Nov. 11 known as the National Coalition for Syrian Revolutionary and Opposition Forces (NCSROF), MPAC views this development with hope for the future of Syria. -

On Monday, Oct. 22, the NYC subway system will feature ads by MPAC, which is an effort to counter the recent hateful and divisive ad released by Pamela Geller’s organization, AFDI. One week later, on Monday, Oct. 29, the Metro system in DC, will post the same ads on WMATA buses across the DC, Virginia and Maryland areas. -

MPAC today condemned the Taliban’s appalling attack against Malala Yousafzai, an innocent 14-year-old girl in Pakistan, who was advocating for education. Malala was shot in the head by the Taliban for being a girl and standing up to unjust policies and oppression for the past three years through her BBC blog. -

Last night, the Muslim Public Affairs Council along with the All Dulles American Muslims (ADAMS) Center Youth Group hosted a groundbreaking event – “Let's Be Honest: Getting Beyond the Taboos of Our Community.” With more than 600 attendees, the main hall of the ADAMS Center was standing-room only for the energetic discussions.
