In late March, MPAC hosted a “Let’s Be Honest” forum with the Muslim Youth Group (MYG) of the Islamic Center of Southern California (ICSC). With the intent of tackling taboo topics such as drugs and alcohol, premarital sex and homosexuality, the forum, for the first time, brought together a panel of MYG members and elders. -

Over the weekend, the Islamic Shura Council of Southern California held its annual elections for its board of directors. MPAC's Director of Policy and Programming Edina Lekovic was re-elected to serve a second term on the board, alongside Imam Taha Hassane from the Islamic Center of San Diego and Imam Jihad Saafir of Masjid Ibaadullah. -

Three homes, a mosque and a convenience store in Queens, NY started their new year off with a bang this week, after a series of arson attacks, which police have classified as hate crimes. In just the past two years, there has been a 50% increase of hate crimes against Muslim Americans since 2009, according to the FBI’s 2010 Hate Crimes report. -
