With the incessant violence in the Middle East caused by violent extremism, Muslims are asking each other a major question nowadays: “what can we do?” It seems impossible to actually do anything here about something that is being caused by fanatics in another part of the world, but in reality, there is a lot we can do to combat groups like the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS).

We signed onto a voter engagement campaign called "Your Vote Matters" with Asian Americans Advancing Justice (AAJC) whose mission is to promote a fair and equitable society for all by working for civil and human rights and empowering Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders and other underserved communities. Because of the commonalities in our missions, we see possibility to learn and grow from each other. -

The Bilal Islamic Center in south Los Angeles hosted MPAC President Salam Al-Marayati last weekend for a talk about the parallels between the Medina Constitution and the U.S. Constitution. The Medina Constitution is the social contract created between the Prophet Muhammad with leaders of other faith communities. -

On Satuday, March 8, more than a dozen Southern California Muslim community leaders from across the region gathered at MPAC's office for brunch and a discussion about issues affecting our community, such as racism, youth engagement and apathy, and to gain a better understanding of MPAC's work and services. -

Nuor Shatila has spent her life dedicated to volunteering and activism. It was her work with her community that inspired her to pursue a career in media. After finishing her first year at University of California, Riverside, Shatila declared a media and cultural studies major. As the 2013 Summer Communications Intern, Shatila hopes her work with MPAC will help continue her path to strengthen the American Muslim voice in today's society. -
