On Feb. 8, 20 Muslims and Jews convened for a five-month NewGround fellowship to learn with and from each other. NewGround began in 2006 as a response to the climate of tension and mistrust between Jews and Muslims in Los Angeles. More importantly, NewGround was founded to create a national model for healthy relations, productive engagement and social change between Muslim Americans and Jews.

When President Lincoln responded to an irate woman who wanted him to destroy Yankee enemies in the South, he responded with, "Madam, do I not destroy my enemy when he becomes my friend!?" In this spirit of reconciliation, NewGround: A Muslim-Jewish Partnership for Change co-directors Aziza Hasan and Malka Fenyvesi led a workshop on conflict resolution at the University of Southern California (USC). -
