Today, April 9, 2019, we submitted a statement for the record to the House Judiciary Committee’s hearing on “Hate Crimes and the Rise of White Nationalism”.

The rise of white nationalism and its subsequent violence have not been recognized by our elected officials despite repeated, tragic events that have targeted religious minorities and communities of color and left devastation in their wake. In fact, the negative rhetoric from politicians and other public figures have further driven hate and bias-related attacks on Muslim communities. According to the Anti-Defamation League, white supremacist murders more than doubled in 2017.

Everyone in society has a role to play in countering white nationalism. It's time for Congress to recognize this divisive and dangerous ideology that knows no borders or religion as a legitimate threat.
