Rewriting the Story: Understanding & Crafting Authentic Muslim Narratives
December 4, 2017
Film and TV have the power to influence how we see and feel about each other. In this critical time, there are opportunities for the entertainment industry to challenge existing narratives of bigotry and fear while also telling authentic stories, particularly from Muslims and Muslim Americans.
The Writers Guild Foundation and MPAC's Hollywood Bureau present a discussion on creating more authentic representations of Islam and Muslims in film and television.
Panelists:
- Salam Al-Marayati, President of MPAC
- Cherien Dabis (Empire, Quantico)
- Chris Keyser (The Last Tycoon, Tyrant)
- Dan Milano (Robot Chicken, Greg the Bunny)
- Sohrab Noshirvani (Dry River Road, Junkyard Dogs)
- Y. Shireen Razack (Shadowhunters: The Mortal Instruments, Haven)
Moderated by Valerie C. Woods (Any Day Now, Soul Food)
