The Forums at MPAC: A Woman’s Right in Islam: Then and Now

Videos
On August 25, 2021 By MPAC
Fostering a pluralistic and equitable America means ensuring that underrepresented communities have a seat at the table. We believe true dialogue and understanding occurs beyond the headlines. The Forums at MPAC bring together government, industry, and community stakeholders to hold important conversations on the most pressing matters. So many misconceptions about Muslim women are derived from societal and cultural practices that go against Islamic values. In honor of Women's History Month, we engaged in a moderated discussion covering diverse experience narratives and misconceptions about women's rights in Islam. ---------- Subscribe to MPAC's channel: http://bit.ly/MPACYouTube Like MPAC on Facebook: http://fb.com/mpacnational Follow MPAC on Twitter: http://twitter.com/mpac_national Follow MPAC on Instagram: http://instagram.com/mpac_national Visit MPAC's website: http://mpac.org About the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) We improve public understanding and policies that impact American Muslims by engaging our government, media, and communities. Forums at MPAC: Repercussions of Taliban Takeover of Afghanistan: What the U.S. Should Do

Videos
On August 24, 2021 By MPAC
On August 15, 2021, just shy of the two-decade anniversary of the U.S. invasion of Afghanistan, the efforts to create a country governed by the Afghan people, for the Afghan people collapsed into complete failure. The past four U.S. presidential administrations of both parties have devoted blood and more than $2,000,000,000,000 ($2 trillion) to ensure the Taliban do not return to power, promising they will not allow such a day to come. The Taliban retook complete control of the nation, while former Afghan leaders sought refuge in nearby countries. We sat down for a panel discussion with experts who shared their experiences as Afghan-Americans and their work in senior roles in government and civil society and discussed what we needed to do to secure the lives of Afghan citizens who were facing near-certain death and torture. In discussion was Farhat Popal, Immigrant Affairs Manager for the City of San Diego and former Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR), Haris Tarin, Senior Policy Advisor at the Department of Homeland Security, and Dr. Maryam Qudrat, Director of the Writer and Communication Resource Center at California State University, Long Beach, and former Adviser to the Ministry of Higher Education of Afghanistan. ---------- Subscribe to MPAC's channel: http://bit.ly/MPACYouTube Like MPAC on Facebook: http://fb.com/mpacnational Follow MPAC on Twitter: http://twitter.com/mpac_national Follow MPAC on Instagram: http://instagram.com/mpac_national Visit MPAC's website: http://mpac.org About the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) We improve public understanding and policies that impact American Muslims by engaging our government, media, and communities. A decade after the white supremacist attack in Oslo, Norway, as we’ve seen an evolution of transnational white supremacist violence, are governments substantially addressing this threat? On the anniversary of the Oslo attacks a decade ago, we featured in 'The Forums at MPAC' - Oslo: The Tipping Point of Global White Nationalism', and sat down with Torkel Brekke, lead analyst at Norway’s Center for Research on Extremism, Daryl Johnson, former analyst at the Department of Homeland Security, and Sindre Bangstad, author of Anders Breivik and the Rise of Islamophobia, and discussed the legacy of white supremacist extremism following the Oslo attacks. ---------- Subscribe to MPAC's channel: http://bit.ly/MPACYouTube Like MPAC on Facebook: http://fb.com/mpacnational Follow MPAC on Twitter: http://twitter.com/mpac_national Follow MPAC on Instagram: http://instagram.com/mpac_national Visit MPAC's website: http://mpac.org About the Muslim Public Affairs Council (MPAC) We improve public understanding and policies that impact American Muslims by engaging our government, media, and communities.
