Prema Rahman

Human Security Program Manager

Prema first joined MPAC as a Policy Intern in 2017, shortly after she volunteered for their 2016 convention featuring Van Jones. From there, she went on to become their Special Projects Fellow. She now works as MPAC's Community and Government Liaison, organizing community programs, building government relations, and advancing civic engagement of the American Muslim community.

Brought up in Orange County, Prema escaped the conservative clutches of her hometown to pursue a Bachelor’s degree in International Relations at Boston University. During her time at BU, she studied abroad in London and Geneva, from where she traveled extensively across Europe to immerse herself in the hodgepodge of European identity, culture, and politics.

Upon graduating as Magna Cum Laude from BU, she soon made her way across the pond to earn her Master’s in Global Politics from the London School of Economics and Political Science, with a focus on gender and development. True to LSE’s motto, “Rerum cognoscere causas,” or, “to Know the Causes of Things,” Prema engaged in critical research to analyze issues relating to poverty, inequality, and identity politics within the context of globalization.

Prema has previously interned for Westminster-Briefing and Geneva for Human Rights (GHR). At Westminster-Briefing, she conducted in-depth policy research to trace the growth and impact of latest British policies and created briefing events for key stakeholders. During her time with GHR, she worked closely with human rights within the UN setting, attending and analyzing meetings held by the UN Human Rights treaty bodies to supplement GHR’s human rights training program. She was also the Policy & Outreach Fellow and the Digital Content Producer for the 2017 Global People's Summit +SocialGood.
